Stripe Test Layout

I participated in 2 challenges for this layout. The Heart 2 Heart challenge this week was to create something with polka dots and stripes on it, and Let's Scrap (Inter)National Scrapbooking Month challenge #11 was to choose a row from the provided Bingo card and use each item on a layout. I chose the row with "your choice" (I picked stickers), patterned paper, brads, and chipboard. I actually created the stripe paper using a lined stamp from the Noteworthy stamp set, and then I added extra lines using a Moonstruck marker. To create the open space in the center of the layout, I covered part of the Colonial White cardstock with scratch paper, brayered over the whole page with Moonstruck ink, and then removed the scratch paper to reveal a white center.

Heart 2 Heart Sketch Challenge 16 - First Ski

It's sketching time! The Heart 2 Heart sketch this month features 9 photos. I stuck pretty closely to the sketch, but feel free to change photo sizes, move some elements around, and use hearts or stars or whatever you like in place of the snowflakes. Happy scrapping, and, as always, please link to the H2H blog when you post your completed layout so we can admire your interpretation of the sketch.

Origami Dress Card

I recently ran across a video for making an origami dress, so I thought I would try it out. It was actually pretty easy, and I liked the result, so here's the card I made using it, plus I added the video so you can join in the fun! The Heart to Heart Challenge blog wanted us to share our Mother's Day projects and cards, and this card fit my mom perfectly, since she loves to sew and is a very talented seamstress.

Housewarming Layout

I've been busy creating cards for an upcoming Dotty for You workshop, but I thought I'd take a break today and do some scrapbooking. I found a Let's Scrap sketch that worked great for this layout, and pulled out some old papers and a die cut from the Felicity pack. I'm such a hoarder that I still have half that pack left, so it was time to use it. I tagged this as an 8-photo layout because I used a Flip-Flap to hold the horizontal journaling box, and it flips up to reveal 2 photos underneath it. I love how the layout turned out almost as much as I love what it celebrates: our new home! Just a sideline, if you're in the Los Angeles area and are looking for a realtor, I highly recommend Owen Matchell from Evergreen Realty. He worked so hard to sell our old house and get us into our new one, and he even catered our housewarming party. Great guy!

Keep On Movin' Layout

Another fun layout of my kids skating. I used a technique I haven't tried for a while. I wanted to add some brads but didn't have any in Dutch Blue, so I used embossing powder and Versamark ink to color the tops of two silver brads. The powder doesn't quite cover the top of the brad evenly, so if you look at the brads closely, you'll see that they have a cool speckled appearance.

Waffle Wednesday Layout

Another Studio J "scrap-lift" from my Washington vacation. I didn't have the My Stickease for the Grace papers, so I stamped a few images instead using one of the first stamp sets I purchased from CTMH, All My Love. It may be old, but it still works great! Looking at the layout now, I think I need to add some faux stitching around the edges. It's a little plain as is. What do you think?

Skate Plaza Layout

For this layout of my kids skating for the first time, I did something I haven't done for a while; I journaled on my photo.  I had a slightly blurred photo that I still wanted to use, so I added white text over part of the photo, had it printed up at Costco with my other photos, and voila! my journaling was done before I even started scrapping my layout. I often struggle with adding journaling, so this was a great feeling.

Early Spring in Eastern Washington Layout

This layout has been sitting on my desk for a week as I slowly added one element after another, but now it's finally done! I was inspired by Joyce's VSBN Challenge, The Math Behind Leap Year. She asked us to create a layout using 3 flowers, 6 patterned papers, 5 buttons (365 being the number of days in a regular year), and 4 of something of our choice (because we add an extra day every 4 years - I chose ribbons). I didn't quite make it to the 6 patterned papers, but the inspiration got me a long way on the rest of my layout, so thanks Joyce!

Heart 2 Heart Sketch Challenge 15 - Gifts & Goodies

Another month, another H2H sketch. This one went through several modifications before I was happy with it, and I still changed a few things on the final layout, so don't hesitate to modify it as needed. It features six 4" x 6" prints (one with a little bit cut off on the side), and two 3" x 3" prints. The darker paper strips are 3" x 9", and the lighter ones are 3" x 12". The circle is 6.5", and the photos have 1/4" mats. Either side of the sketch would make a fine single page layout; just add a title to the left hand page. You can replace the stars with whatever elements work for your pictures. Have fun and be sure to link your finished layout to the Heart 2 Heart Challenge Blog under scrapbooking!

Scrabble Time

Since I was out of town during the weekend of Virtual Scrapbook Night at Split Coast Stampers, I didn't get to participate in any of the challenges except the one I hosted, but now that I'm back at home, I'm trying to use them for some scrapping inspiration. This layout was inspired by Michele's Childhood Games challenge based on the game Leapfrog. We needed to use a favorite game from childhood for inspiration ( I chose Scrabble), use a minimum of 3 photos (because Leapfrog wasn’t a single player game and it wasn’t as much fun with just two people), and to tell what game inspired us (Scrabble, of course). My sister was such a good sport posing for these pictures, and now she's got me hooked on Scrabble again!
