Henry VIII's Kitchens Journaling Cards

Yesterday I shared the layout I had created featuring photos from Henry VIII's kitchen at Hampton Court. Of course, we took many more photos than those I included in the layout, so I'm adding a photos storage page between the two pages. I didn't have quite enough photos to fill one side of the page, so I added some journaling cards to fill in the extra spaces.

The first card used Sketch #89 from Sketches in Thyme PL Style. I changed up the shape at the top to go with the circles on the patterned paper.

The next card used Sketch #93, also from Sketches in Thyme PL Style, but I turned it upside down to fit the blank space in my photo. This was actually a horizontal photo, but I trimmed it to fit on the 4" x 6" cardstock.

The final card  didn't use a sketch, but I tried to stay with a similar style. After making three of these cards, my admiration for pocket scrapbookers has really increased. I found it much harder to get creative three times than just to scrapbook on one larger canvas. Pocket scrapbookers, you are the bomb!

And here's the completed pocket page with the journaling cards inserted.

Wonderful Layout

As I scrapped these pictures from the Chula Vista Nature Center, I couldn't help marveling at the variety of sea life we saw. These tanks weren't as colorful as the ones with the blown glass sculptures, but it allowed us to get a different perspective on the creatures of the sea. I played along with the Keep It Earthy challenge by Vicky from Splitcoast Stampers, who asked us to use earth tones in our scrapbooking. It was also fun to use one of my previous sketches and see how different I could make the finished layout. Click on the link at the bottom to see the sketch and my original layout!

April LOAD #2 - Fish House Vera Cruz

One of my favorite places to eat fish is the Fish House Vera Cruz. If you're ever in San Marcos, California, it's well worth visiting. The food is delicious! There's always a wait for a table, so the kids entertain themselves by watching the fish in the huge fish tank in the lobby. We went there with friends in March 2007 to celebrate Elliot's second birthday. I was so happy to capture a sweet moment when Elliot was staring fascinated at the fish tank while his older brother gazed solemnly into the camera lens. It's one of my favorite pictures of them.

On this layout, I used the stamp set "At the Aquarium," long discontinued but still one I pull out to scrapbook anything fishy! To highlight the two larger photos, I dry embossed a square around them and then sanded the cardstock to reveal the white core underneath. It's a fun and not too difficult technique to help make your pictures pop!
