Everyday Cards

I lost my scrapping mojo this week, so the layout I started on Tuesday is still sitting on my desk. Boohoo! But when my friend Robin came over to my house on Thursday to complete the Crazy for Cards workshop, I pulled out my Celebrate the Everyday card kit and worked on it while she did her cards. I only made half the cards (you can complete 16 using the instruction booklet, but I didn't need that many right now), and I made some exactly as instructed in the booklet, while others I changed up a bit. I loved working with this kit. Cute papers and embellishments guaranteed that my cards would turn out great. Now hopefully this week I'll get inspired to do some scrapping. I'll keep you posted!

Soccer Coach Gift - Part 2

I managed to finish the second of my soccer coach gifts in spite of having no power to the house today. I used the same color scheme but a totally different layout, and I added some of the Color-Ready Alphabet stickers to spell out the word coach. Originally I had used my spounge daubers to add Creme Brulee ink to the white stickers, but they still looked too plain, so I dabbed the edges with some Autumn Terracotta ink to give them a little pop. Much better! I also got smart and photographed the layout before I put it into a frame, so you can see it without the lovely reflection of the photographer. Yay, so glad this is done and I can start scrapping my Hawaii vacation from 2006. I'm playing some catch-up on older photos since I have scrapped January through May of this year.

Soccer Coach Gift

I was asked by the team mom for my son Adrian's soccer team to create a framed layout to give to the coach and assistant coach at the team party. Well, the party is this weekend, so I figured I ought to get myself moving on this project! The team mom bought the frames, and getting the kids to sign the mat without the coaches seeing them was a trick, but I love that they all left their personal touch on the gift! Here is the first completed project. I was planning to adapt one of the patterns from Cherish (Dynamic Design), but as I was trying to figure out my color scheme, I had placed scraps of paper on the Moonstruck cardstock to see what colors went with the photo. I asked my husband his opinion, and he told me he really liked the design I'd created. I laughed and told him I really just wanted his opinion on the color scheme. He replied, "Looks great, but I think you need to use the arrangement of papers, too." I let it sit on my desk for a few days while I was working on other projects, and I finally decided he was right. So thanks, Greg, for your inspiration! Thanks also to the ladies on the CTMH consultant bulletin board, who offered feedback on my initial design. Now I'm off to finish #2. Our power will be turned off at 9am today while the electric company replaces a power pole on our street, so hopefully I can complete this project without electricity this morning. We're escaping to a friend's house this afternoon to take advantage of the air conditioning and pool. Wish me luck!

Teacher Thank You Cards

This has been another card-oriented week. My oldest son finished first grade on Friday, and I made cards for his teacher and full-time teacher's aide. Both cards were inspired by CTMH consultants. The card with the "A" on it uses one of my favorite products: White Daisy textured cardstock. I had already used the large A on my Dimensional Elements Monogram A (see page 96 in the current catalog if you have no idea what that is!), so I used the negative space as a stencil, traced it onto my cardstock, and cut it out. I then brushed Outdoor Denim ink onto it directly from the pad (you could also use a brayer to do this). I love how you can still see traces of the white cardstock, thus making the most of the fact the paper is textured. I have to share a funny story regarding the delivery of these cards. I finished them on Thursday night and placed them in my son's homework folder in his backpack. I figured the teacher would get them since she usually checks the folder in the morning. My husband got my son ready for school Friday, and made no mention to him about the cards. So when my son came home from school and I looked in his folder, the cards were still there! EEK! I made a mad dash back to the school and fortunately his teacher was still there, so I was able to give her the cards. We ended up having a nice talk, but I was a little stressed out by this, to say the least! The funniest part of it was the conversation I had with Adrian about it.

Me: Did the other kids in your class give teacher cards or gifts?
Adrian: Yes
Me: So didn't you think to check your backpack for your card for teacher?
Adrian: Umm . . . no.

Tickled Pink Thank You card

I finally completed this card I've been promising to post, so here it is! The card uses a 6"x6" pattern called Background Blocks from the Originals card book. I used mostly papers and stamps from this month's CTMH special, the Tickled Pink kit. The more I play with the papers and the beautiful flower stamps, the more I fall in love with them. The brochure that comes with the kit shows how to combine several of the flower stamps to create the multi-colored blooms I used on my card. My new Thank You stamp set was the perfect finishing touch. I gave the card to my Bible Study Fellowship leader today after all the ladies in my discussion group had signed it, and she loved it. It's so exciting to be able to create something beautiful that will be treasured, and only spend a fraction of what I would have to spend if I purchased a card at the store. I love my hobby!
