3rd Grade Open House for Lasting Memories #728

It's time for the third of our Lasting Memories challenges for November, and today we are being inspired by artist Nathaniel Mather's mixed media work entitled "Helping Trunk." I loved the colorful spray of water coming out of the elephant's trunk, and I knew I had some patterned paper that reminded me of it, so I chose photos and built my layout around that paper. There are so many fun elements in the inspiration painting, so hopefully you will come play along with us using the link above!

Here's my layout:

Retreat 2017 Layout for Lasting Memories #727

Happy Sunday, and greetings to everyone out there in scrappy land! Hope you got some time in to scrapbook this week. I got this layout done for the latest Lasting Memories challenge to find inspiration from a piece of artwork provided by design team member Lisa. I decided to crop five of my photos into circles, something I rarely do, but it enabled me to get six photos onto this single page layout, so hooray for the inspiration! Feeling inspired? Join us over at Lasting Memories through the end of the month for this or any of our other art inspired challenges.

Here's my layout:

Off With Her Head! Layout for Lasting Memories #276

If this seems like a gruesome title for my layout, it is, but it's because I needed to scrapbook some photos from the execution site at the Tower of London, where such famous people as Lady Jane Grey and Anne Boleyn were beheaded. Another round of challenges from the Lasting Memories blog starts today, and they are super fun, with inspiration from various artworks found at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. Today's inspiration is Jen P. Harris' mixed media work entitled "Parte Incognita." My first instinct was to go with hexagon shapes, and I even cut out a few, but then I noticed each hexagon was actually divided into three diamond shapes, so I decided to go with that instead. There is some great inspiration on the Lasting Memories blog, so be sure to check it out and join us for this fun round of challenges!

Here is my layout:

And here is the inspiration artwork:

Anyway, I started this layout a couple of days ago but didn't manage to get it done until this morning because - well, life! Sometimes cats are regal and elegant, and sometimes, they look like this. Cracks me up so I had a scrap these photos. Can anyone else identify?

Trick or Treat 2017 Layout

Inspiration struck this afternoon from multiple sources (see the challenge listing below), and I put together this layout just in time for Halloween! I realized after I had already cut the pumpkin paper that the pointed ends of the hexagons were supposed to be on the top and bottom, but I didn't have any more of that paper, so I just ran with it. My cat was eying the raffia as I pulled it out of my stash, but I managed to prevent her from stealing it, and I love the way it looks on the layout. Hopefully you do, too!

Movie Night Layout for Lasting Memories #725

I've been busy working on a photo book for my recent Alaska cruise, so I have been neglecting my blog a bit, but here's a layout I managed to eke out for the new Lasting Memories challenge. In honor of Halloween costumes, Brandi Jo asked us to use something that sparkles, so I chose some gold Stickles to do the Wonder Woman logo, plus I added some gold star brads. That's more sparkle than I am used to, but I love the look. Hopefully you are inspired to scrapbook along with us. Just click the link above to hop on over to the Lasting Memories blog and add your sparkly layout!

I pulled out some DCWV papers that I have had since around 2011 and used them on my layout. Halloween Prep Layout for Lasting Memories #722

I'm on a scrappy roll, with two layouts completed in two days, so here is my latest, featuring the new Lasting Memories challenge. Brandi Jo is challenging us to be inspired by Autumn this month, so the first challenge is to be inspired by pumpkins - create a layout using at least 50% orange, and include a round element. I think I have more than 50% orange here, and the round elements are the sub-title letters and the circle behind the top pumpkin sticker. This was a fun and relatively easy challenge to complete, so hopefully you are now inspired to hop over to Lasting Memories and play along!

White Tower Tour

This weekend, I finished up scrapping the photos we took of the White Tower at the Tower of London. These photos were from a tour we took of the interior, from the basement to the top floor, not including the arms and armor exhibits on the entrance floor. I had fun piecing together the stone block wall, although it got a little tedious at the end! The horizontal photo lifts up to reveal another photo and some journaling (see below).

Here's the hidden journaling:

I posted a few photos from the Line of Kings exhibit at the Tower of London last week, so here is the accompanying layout, along with the journaling card from the facing pocket page. White Tower Journaling Card

Yesterday when I posted my layout of the White Tower at the Tower of London, I mentioned that the photos of the arms and armor exhibit in the White Tower were going to be placed in a pocket page along with my journaling about the Tower. I got the journaling card finished today, so here it is, along with a few photos of the Line of Kings exhibit from the pocket page. We were a little overwhelmed by this huge exhibit, so I forgot to take notes of who the armor belonged to, but it's still fun to look at it.

Keeper, a dragon made of armor, was actually part of the Power House display on the second floor, but since I put it in a pocket with the other vertical photos, I'm showing it here!

White Tower Layout

In the center of the Tower of London is the White Tower, the original building William the Conqueror had constructed in the 1070s to bring the fierce and fickle Londoners under his control. One of the main exhibits inside is the Line of Kings, a massive display of armor that opened in the late 1600s. We took lots of photos of this exhibit, but I decided to put most of them in pocket pages, so my journaling about the history of the White Tower and the collection will also be in the pocket pages. For today, I just scrapbooked the exterior of the Tower.

3rd Grade Layout for Lasting Memories #715

It's time for another challenge reveal over at Lasting Memories! I am this month's hostess, and I decided to challenge us to a Scrappy Olympics in honor of the games just held in Paris. This week's challenge is to be inspired by the swimming competitions by creating a mixed media layout. Since the challenge didn't actually require using a swimming theme, I chose to scrap my son's third grade school portrait; I used yellow watercolor paint and blue ink from a spray pen on a piece of watercolor paper to create my background. I am not super talented with mixed media, but once I added the photo and other papers and embellishments, it turned out okay. Hopefully some of you ladies are better at mixed media than I am, so I would love to see your mixed media layouts! Please link up your post before this month's challenge ends on 8/31/24.

Tintin Haircut Layout

My son had long hair for several years, but one day decided to cut it all off in favor of a Tintin haircut, which is short all over except the front, which sticks up like the cartoon character. I found an image of Tintin on the internet and created a cut file in Cricut Design Space, then put the silhouette next to my son's head. Aren't the haircuts similar? The circle sticks up off the page a little, something I don't often do, but I like the look of it. Hope you do as well.

I created a pocket behind the framed photo for the journaling tag, so here it is:

Recipe:
Flight of the Arrows stamp set
Soda Pop & Hip Hip Hooray papers
Nectarine, Lagoon, Sundance & Black cardstock
Nectarine, Lagoon, Sapphire & Sweet Leaf ink
Black marker
Lagoon ribbon
White glitter enamel dots (Eyelet Outlet)
3-D foam tape
Cricut Artiste cartridge: title, hearts
Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge: tag
Cricut Design Space: Tintin Silhouette
Pattern: EMS Sketch Challenge #94

Challenges: Color My Heart Color Dare #612 - used the top row with Pumpkin (subbed Nectarine) + Limeade + Sundance and the right column with Sundance + Lagoon + Sapphire

Inkspirational #322 Mood Board - inspired by colors (similar to above challenge) and the layered plates and the ombre chevrons.
