Be Yourself Layout for Lasting Memories #653

Happy Sunday, everyone! It's time for another challenge from Lasting Memories. This time we are being inspired by the word GRADS. Since I have a recent graduate in the family (congrats to my son who finished high school last Thursday), I decided to scrap photos of him from his early school career. I included the following product/techniques:

Welcome to Hogwarts Layout

My second Universal Studios layout features a few photos from the Wizard World of Harry Potter. I played along with the Scrap Our Stash Tic Tac Toe challenge to create this layout, starting with a sketch from Page Maps and adding several die-cuts and 3 photos. I also did lots of stamping and some fussy cutting to get just the look I wanted for the embellishments. Hope you all like it!

Hey There Pumpkin Layout

This layout is pretty simple for the most part, but I decided that, to mirror my son's activity in the photos, I wanted an interactive component with the hoop being able to raise or lower over the pumpkin. After consulting numerous books that featured moving parts, plus consulting my civil engineer husband, I finally just attached a string to the hoop and threaded it through a series of eyelets, with the ends being tied off with large beads to prevent the string from slipping out of the eyelets. Sometimes the simple solution is best!

Pumpkin Patch Layout

My boys love going to the pumpkin patch, but not for the pumpkins. Nope, they love the rides! I usually have to bribe (or threaten) them to get them to pose for a picture with the pumpkins. Last year was no exception, but I'm glad we managed to get a good mix of photos of them having fun and just looking cute for the camera. The resulting layout uses Sketch Support 2 Page Sketch #1, plus one of the lovely diecuts that came in my Felicity kit. The title was cut out using a Cricut cartridge belonging to my scrap buddy Beth, but I didn't write down which cartridge it was. Oops! Well, it looks great anyway, right? Beth worked really hard learning how to weld words together on her Gypsy, and she created the title for me, so a big thanks to Beth.

LOAD #9 - The Hunt

I hosted a crop at my house today, and afterwards I decided that crops are a waste of time for me as far as getting pages scrapped. I am usually too busy talking or giving others advice about their pages to get my own pages done! I do love the girl time though, so I'm not giving up on them yet. I managed to finish this layout at the crop, at least. I realized I used a lot of discontinued product on it, but let's be real - CTMH's stamps and embellishments don't suddenly get un-cute just because they are retired. No, I can see myself using the stamp sets for years to come. Hopefully I'll use up the embellishments, though, because I do not want to be using them for years! I based my design on a Becky Higgins sketch from November 2009 Creating Keepsakes. Although I am not quite as sad about Becky not having a sketch column in CK as I would have been if I hadn't discovered Jeanette Lynton's pattern books, I will still miss seeing her monthly columns. Hopefully her work will still be featured frequently in the magazine.

Mom's Mini Calendar, Part 2

I just finished my mom's mini calendar, and I'm happy to announce that I cleaned up my scrapbooking desk, too. Woohoo! Now I have a clean surface to use for my next project: wrapping Christmas presents. Here are the pictures of the last 6 months' pages. A couple were inspired by Anne Chek's samples, while I found inspiration for others from cards and layouts in the CTMH catalog. Thanks to CTMH for inspiring me, too. On a sad note, all the Word Puzzle stamp sets (the ones I used for the names of the months in this project) are retiring on December 31st, so if you love them but haven't bought them all, this is your last chance. They will no longer be available after this month. CTMH will have a new collection of monthly stamps, but they will not have as many images as these, so don't miss out on getting the Word Puzzles!
