Remember 5th Grade Layout

I am nearing the completion of my son's elementary school album and needed to scrap this open house layout, but I was so tired of thinking of creative titles for open house. Can anyone relate? Then I noticed his teacher had written him a little notice that said she will always remember him, so that inspired me to cut out the "remember" using my Cricut and an ACOT cutfile. Stamping "5th Grade" and adding some school-themed ephemera were the finishing touches.

Snow Play Layout

Although it never snows where we live, I have scrapbooked a surprising number of snow themed layouts. What surprised me even more is that I have never titled one Snow Play (at least since I started my blog in 2009). So I guess this layout title is past due! The photos were taken on the third day of our 2018 Mammoth vacation. After cutting out the circle photos, I used the leftover scraps to cut out the title and the snowflakes on my Cricut. I don't think I have done this with photos since before I got my first Cricut, so it was a fun technique to use again, and I love that the snow pattern gives a little more interest than plain white cardstock.

Mint Street Layout

I've been a little lazy this week as far as scrapbooking goes, but today I got back to work and finished up another Tower of London layout, this time encompassing our tour of the former National Mint in Mint Street. The circles across the top of the sketch I used were perfect for cropped photos of some of the coins we saw. I ran out of journaling space to list all the coins, but they range from an Edward I groat (1279) to some Elizabethan coins (late 1500s), to Charles II guineas from the 1670s. The final one on the top was a countermarked Spanish real, a repurposed Spanish coin used during a currency shortage in England. A tiny portrait of the English monarch was stamped onto an existing foreign coin in order to make it legal English currency!

Good morning, and a happy new month to you. Over at Lasting Memories, Jill designed five new challenges for you to enjoy this month based on some of her favorite things. The first is a favorite sketch, and those of you who follow my blog know I love sketches! I will occasionally create a layout without first consulting a sketch, but it's rare. When I can't find one that works for me, I design one just so I can see how the overall layout will look. It's hard for me to pick a favorite (kind of like a mom picking her favorite child - LOL), but I do love this one and have used it several times in my scrapping. 2016 In Review Layout + Lasting Memories #632

As the second challenge for my month as guest designer for Lasting Memories, we were asked to create a year in review layout. When I first read this, I groaned because this is not something I usually do, but I am so glad now for this challenge! It was really fun figuring out what photos to use (I ended up choosing one per month), what embellishments to use to tie them together (I picked stickers from multiple sources), and what journaling to write (used a bullet pointed list).

Aquarium of the Pacific 2015 Layout

For these photos of my kids enjoying the aquarium, I drew inspiration from a couple of crafting challenges plus a sketch I created in 2019 that remains a favorite. The patterned paper is from an old CTMH kit that was one of the first ones I purchased back in 2004 or 2005, so it was great that it suited these photos so well. Am I the only paper collector around here who needs to get those old papers off the shelf and into my albums?

EMS Sketch Challenge 78 - Summer Fun & Sun Layout

So now that Let's Scrap has stopped creating sketches, I am feeling a need for two page scrapbook sketches. I'm sure they're out there, but not sure where to find them. I decided to fill the void just a little by creating a two page sketch this month. It features 12 photos, but the top circles could easily be converted to cardstock or patterned paper. The 2.5" wide journaling space was sufficient for me, but you could also crop the horizontal photos to create a wider space if needed.

The November Variety Challenge at Splitcoast Stampers, "Gridlocked," is to arrange pictures in a grid pattern. Wild & Scenic River Ranger Walk Layout

When looking at this group of pictures, I felt like I had too many for one layout but too few for two layouts, so I compromised by creating a layout featuring a few pictures and putting the rest into a pocket page. This allowed me to use quite a few of my Jackson journaling cards, and it challenged my brain with how to lay them out and add journaling! I posted the finished layout first and then the pocket page, but in my scrapbook, the pocket page will actually be inserted between the two layout pages.

Tenaya Lake 2012 Layout

Every time we go to Yosemite, we try to spend a day at Tenaya Lake. It's beautiful, and the water tends to be a little warmer than in the Merced River (at least in our experience). I used a sketch from Stick It Down to scrapbook the pictures of our time there in 2012. To be honest, I adapted the sketch quite a bit, but I think you can see how I retained the grid pattern on the left page and a more free form look on the right with the title and a circle. I mixed a few discontinued products from CTMH with the new items I just received, and I even made myself go with the background color of the trees for my title and accents rather than the more obvious blue, but I like how it turned out. Hopefully you all do as well!

A Plethora of Presents Layout

In case anyone is wondering, plethora means abundance or excess, which was certainly appropriate for the Christmas morning depicted in this layout. Our kids have lots of grandparents, so they received lots of presents! This was my last layout of 2013, and I am so excited that I met my yearly goal of 100 layout. Woohoo! Now I need to get started on my 2014 goal.

Our 12 Month Journey to Adoption Layout

I finally got my photos developed so I could do the "12 Ages and Stages" challenge over at Let's Scrap.We were given a sketch and asked to create a layout using 12 photos that represent something in our lives. I chose to use photos from my younger son's adoption day, since it took 12 months from the time he was placed with us until we went to court for the finalization. The journaling is written on the tags, which pull out so you can read them. I also was inspired by the Cupcake Special #3 Challenge from 2 Broke Girls, which led me to pick the circle paper and add the flowers because they reminded me of elements on the cupcake!

And here's my layout. Obviously I did not go with the color scheme from the cupcake, although there is chocolate and yellow on my layout . . .

Farewell Party Layout

I finally got back to scrapbooking this week. It took me a couple of days to find my mojo, but I hope it's here to stay. For this layout, featuring photos from a farewell party for our wonderful friends who were moving out of the area, I used up some more of my enormous stash of Dotty 4 You papers. Not sure if the Whisper cardstock goes perfectly with the layout, but I tried Buttercup, Sweet Leaf, and Grey Wool, and for some reason the Whisper seemed to work the best for me.

Skate Plaza Layout

For this layout of my kids skating for the first time, I did something I haven't done for a while; I journaled on my photo.  I had a slightly blurred photo that I still wanted to use, so I added white text over part of the photo, had it printed up at Costco with my other photos, and voila! my journaling was done before I even started scrapping my layout. I often struggle with adding journaling, so this was a great feeling.

LOAD #15 - 5 Daredevils

Michele at Split Coast Stampers challenged us to go pink in honor of breast cancer awareness, and I think this layout definitely qualifies! I was also going to use it for the Heart 2 Heart weekly challenge (use a number in your artwork), but I realized it contains non-CTMH product, so I will have to do another layout for that challenge. The pattern is Conclusion Combo from Imagine. I wanted to include a Vineyard Berry button on the layout, but I didn't have any, so I used Liquid Glass to attach cardstock to the back of a clear button, a great way to make a button coordinate with any color combo.

Week 35 Layout Linky - Shower

The monthly challenge from the Chicas Gettin Crafty blog is to create a wedding themed layout, so here is my entry. It is from a bridal shower, not a wedding, but hopefully it counts! I had a bunch of Life Delights Level 1 paper packs that I had purchased on clearance, and the colors matched my photos perfectly, but not the pattern, so I cut up one of the papers (Front and Center - Blocks from Reflections) and used the pieces on my layout. The pattern I ended up using was one of my favorites - Conclusion Combo from Imagine. I also ran out of room for my journaling, so I used the journaling space to add a subtitle, and then I popped up a picture on the right hand page and slid a journaling tag behind it.

Oops, I can't believe I forgot to post a layout yesterday. My only excuse is that I got really busy creating some cards from a Olivia Level 1 kit, and so I never got around to scanning my layout. Week 15 Layout Linky - Pumpkin Carving Layout

Have you ever looked at a set of photos and wished you had just a little more room on your scrapbook page? Well, CTMH has a great solution: Flip-Flaps. They are clear pockets that attach to the outside of your page protector, and swing open so you can see the photos on both sides. CTMH started with Flip-Flaps for your 4"x6" photos, and then came out with a selection of 12" long ones in different widths. For this layout, I used a 12"x6" Flip-Flap and a 4"x6" one. I started with the pattern Top Hat from Magic, with the right hand page rotated one turn to the right, which is what you see when the Flip-Flaps are closed. The long flap on the left hand page swings open to reveal 4 more photos. On the other page, the photo next to the word "carving" lifts up and you see two more photos underneath. I fit twelve photos on this layout, and it still has lots of breathing space. For a multi-photo scrapper like me, this is just short of heaven!
