Tasty Layout

There are usually too many photos of life events for me to scrap just one photo, but when I have a single photo, I love creating a really special layout for it. For this photo of me enjoying breakfast at our Air BnB before hitting the road to do some exploring, I chose to use a Rochelle Spears sketch along with a color challenge, plus I threw in a few other challenges just for fun! Here's my layout:

And here's the Color Dare challenge. I used shades of the green, purple, and blue, plus some greys and white for my neutrals. How did I do?

4th Grade {Elliot} Class Picture Layout

I completed the companion page for this layout last May, but as I mentioned previously, I don't really enjoy scrapping class photos. They are so big and usually feature annoying color combos that don't match my kids' clothes at all, so it's a challenge to figure out how to scrap them. I solved that puzzle this time by just using almost all the same supplies as I did for my son's 4th grade portrait, so at least the pages will mostly match. I actually had the leftover papers in a bag because I kept thinking I would scrapbook this photo, so why put them away? It took over a year, but it's done and this marks the final page of my son's elementary school album - woohoo!

I realized after I scanned it that it is really hard to see the embossing on the grey cardstock, so here is a close-up of it:

Elliot's First Grade Class Layout

I am counting down the layouts until my son's elementary album is finished, and all I have left are two class photos. As I mentioned earlier this week, I really don't enjoy scrapping these, so I had skipped 1st  grade, but this morning I did a deep dive and found my son's school portrait layout that I scrapped back in 2014, then I just made a layout that would complement that page. Having the recipe listed made it super quick to pull out my supplies, but I had to use a different background paper since I only had a few scraps left of the papers I had used previously. I actually like it better with the alternative paper, so I also posted the double page layout so you can see both pages together. Here's the single:

And here are both pages together. What do you think? Does it work? I love that the background of my son's photo matches some of the tones of the new background paper, but the burgundy of the class photo is challenging! Let me know if you have any suggestions to help the flow.

Elliot's 5th Grade Class Photo Layout for LM #802

I have to confess, scrapping my kids' class photos isn't my favorite task, so I skipped it for my son's last two years of elementary school, but now I am trying to finish his school album, so I forced myself to do it! It ended up being a more enjoyable project than I expected and was a great way to do my design team inspiration for this week's Lasting Memories June-themed challenge: June is the sixth month - use six of one of the following shapes: heart, square, hexagon, or circle. I chose to use circles in a variety of sizes and different papers. The Lasting Memories challenges for June are open until July 4th, so come check them out, be inspired, and play along!

So Freakin' Happy Layout

I couldn't sleep this morning so got up early to do some scrapping! I'm trying to get a few more layouts done for my son's elementary school album before he turns 21, so here is a layout from the Teddy Bear Picnic in 5th grade. It seems the little kids could bring any type of stuffed animal, because his book buddy is holding a stuffed rabbit! I used a bunch of scraps from my scrap box for this layout, and I was too lazy to go look up all the collections and manufacturers that they came from, but it was a great way to clean out a bunch of scraps.

I'm trying hard to finish my son's elementary school album before he turns 21 this month, so here is his 5th grade school portrait layout. I plan to work on the class picture later today, but wanted to get this one in the book first. I decided to go super colorful and pulled a bunch of paper out of my box of scraps to cut the circles. I didn't even try to look up what collection each one came from, although I could have probably figured most of them out. I would rather spend the time scrapping!

The Truth About Me Layout

Kristin over at A Cherry on Top hosts the Picture Yourself challenge, and this month the challenge was to scrap about a little known fact about yourself. Mine is that, despite trying really hard to be outgoing and friendly, I am really an introvert. Part of the challenge was to include a picture of just yourself, so I dug one up that I don't absolutely hate (LOL!), and that inspired me to also play along with the Challenge YOUrself blog this month and create a black and white + one color (mine is pink) layout.

Brianna's 2nd Grade Class Layout

Yesterday I created a layout with my daughter's 2nd grade class portrait on it, and now here is the companion page with her whole class. I used basically the same supplies so the two pages would coordinate well. The Sketch-n-Scrap throwback sketch was my inspiration, but I had to make a few changes since the photo is an 8x10 instead of the smaller ones from the sketch. Super happy to use most of the burgundy floral paper, which has been in my stash since at least 2006! I have a little bit left, so I might need to make a card just to finish it off.

2nd Grade {Brianna} Layout

Today, I cranked out a layout for my daughter's elementary school album. My goal is to finish this album before she graduates high school, so I am running out of time! Anyway, I have most of her 2nd grade photos scrapped, so just three more years to go. This layout was for her school portrait, which for some reason I skipped over when I was scrapping the rest of second grade. No big title and no journaling, since all the information will be on the facing page with her class photo.

The title of this hiking-themed layout is partially figurative and mostly literal. Since I am not a hiker and am totally directionally challenged, without my hubby, I would have been lost in the wilderness!

Thanksgiving Layout for LM #758

Some years I take a ton of photos of certain holidays, and some I take very few, as was the case for Thanksgiving 2018. I'm thankful I got at least this one photo, since Jill over at Lasting Memories is challenging us to scrapbook our favorite holiday. While I love Christmas and Easter, I find that Thanksgiving, with its comparative lack of commercialization, grants me space to just be grateful for all the blessings God has given me, including the people around our table. This cute photo is from Dr. Seuss Day in 2018, and I enjoyed mixing a few die-cuts that I created in Cricut Design Space with some school themed and floral ephemera to make a fun layout commemorating the day. The hat, fish, and journaling are inspired by my daughter's childhood favorite, the Cat in the Hat!

It's kind of hard to see in the scan above, but I added some Liquid Glass raindrops in the upper corner to represent the cold, cold wet day!

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year Layout

Family photos can be a bit of a challenge at any time, but Christmas ones always seem to feature at least one person blinking or moving their head or hand at the wrong time, or even refusing to smile at all! Fortunately, thanks to the magic of photo editing, I managed a near perfect photo in 2017. The only thing that kinda cracks me up is my eldest son clutching his youngest brother's shoulders tightly in order to keep him still. Oliver was a bit of a live wire, that's for sure! For this layout, I just purchased a Simple Stories Christmas collection and enjoyed using brand new papers and embellishments as an early Christmas gift to myself.

3rd Grade Layout for Lasting Memories #715

It's time for another challenge reveal over at Lasting Memories! I am this month's hostess, and I decided to challenge us to a Scrappy Olympics in honor of the games just held in Paris. This week's challenge is to be inspired by the swimming competitions by creating a mixed media layout. Since the challenge didn't actually require using a swimming theme, I chose to scrap my son's third grade school portrait; I used yellow watercolor paint and blue ink from a spray pen on a piece of watercolor paper to create my background. I am not super talented with mixed media, but once I added the photo and other papers and embellishments, it turned out okay. Soccer Star Layout

This layout's title is a bit tongue in cheek, since my son was probably more likely to be picking daisies on the field than showing off his superb skills, but the pre-made title went well with his uniform colors, so I went with it! Always & Forever Layout

Sometimes a random photo pops up on my list of things to scrap, and I have to search my memory to figure out why I took it. This was one of those photos. As I mentioned in my journaling, I'm not sure why we took it, but I love how happy my daughter and I look together, so I am glad I have this memento of us!

I'm almost done with second grade photos for my son's elementary school album, so today I decided to scrapbook this random photo we took of my son and his "Best Math Day Ever" award. Learning did not come easy to him, so this was a huge deal! There is a lot of stamping on this layout, and I even fussy cut the big XOXO, the talk bubble, and the owls after I stamped them. I was tempted to put lots of numbers on the layout because of the math theme, but decided to just use the measuring tape ribbon, then I stamped plus signs on the red ring, and the X could stand for multiplication and the O for zero, so those are my math tributes.
