If It Ain't Baroque . . . Layout

The title for this layout is a play on words based on the saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." William III and Mary II evidently decided to ignore this advice when they planned to demolish Henry VIII's Tudor style palace at Hampton Court and replace it with a Baroque palace inspired by Versailles. Lucky for us history lovers, they ran out of money and had to settle for adding two Baroque-style wings and only tearing down Henry's state rooms and private apartments. As with most of my Hampton Court layouts, I took way too many pictures to scrapbook, so I added some extra ones to a pocket page.

LOAD #6 - Beauty

I finally got pictures developed for EMS Sketch Challenge #6, so here is my layout. My hubby took some pictures of a beautiful Southern California sunset (smog is good for something!), and they were so lovely that I decided to scrap them. This layout is not my usual boy-dominated style, but it was fun to work out what elements worked well together. Here's a technique for you: the Finishing Files are great for sanding painted metal to reveal what's underneath. I had one metal token left from the Connections Club package I used yesterday, so I sanded the other metal Creme Brulee embellishments to match the distressed look of the token.

LOAD #2 - Our G

2 layouts in 2 days - I'm keeping on track! This one was tough for me, since I almost never scrap only 4 photos on a double page spread. I was hard pressed to come up with ideas for the rest of the space, but I kept playing with my supplies until I was satisfied. In the process, I used the last of my Silhouette Level 1 paper pack I've had for a year and a half, so call me a happy camper. By the way, even if you don't scrap 9"x9" albums, the Simply Snapshots pages make great photos mats and journaling boxes. Just cut them up into three sections, and you can frame two 4"x6" photos, plus have a long journal box left over.

Mission Houses Museum Layout

I don't often use stickers on my scrapbook pages, but the That's Amore My Stickease worked out great for this layout. Combined with the Love Always Journaling spots, it made the whole layout come together in no time at all, and I love the old fashioned look of the papers, perfect for this historical page. The quote in my journaling is an excerp from the Triple A guide to Hawaii.

Easter Sunday

I just finished this Easter Sunday layout using the Key to My Heart papers from the CTMH January special. It features our newest colors of Creme Brulee, Tulip, Juniper, and Sorbet (I only used the first two on this layout). The pictures I used weren't of the best quality, but I wanted to scrap them anyway in order to remind myself of this day. They were taken after we had eaten lunch, and Elliot was dashing around to avoid having his picture taken, while Adrian would only pose if we let him hold his new dinosaur. I know I will always think of that whenever I look at this layout, and isn't that what scrapbooking is all about? Preserving those treasured (and sometimes comical) memories. As I was working on this layout, I realized I had run out of the Lilac Mist cardstock I needed to mat the picture of Adrian with his dinosaur, so I improvised. I inked up my brayer using Lilac Mist ink, and then rolled it onto Colonial White cardstock. Once it dried, it produced a perfectly matched piece of cardstock. It even has a slightly mottled surface, which coordinates well with the distressed look of the background paper. So if you ever run out of cardstock, don't panic! Grab your brayer and start rolling.
