Suzie's Birthday Layout for LM #804

Hello, and happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. I scrapbooked a lot on Saturday because I knew Sunday would be spent with my hubby, so here is one of the layouts I completed. It's also reveal day over at Lasting Memories, so for the current challenge, I created a birthday layout for my friend Suzie's birthday party. I couldn't remember all the details, so the journaling card is blank, but I texted her and hope to fill in some information once she responds. If you need to scrap either a birthday celebration or an event that could feature balloons, gifts, or confetti, please come on over and check out the challenge!

Remember 5th Grade Layout

I am nearing the completion of my son's elementary school album and needed to scrap this open house layout, but I was so tired of thinking of creative titles for open house. Can anyone relate? Then I noticed his teacher had written him a little notice that said she will always remember him, so that inspired me to cut out the "remember" using my Cricut and an ACOT cutfile. Stamping "5th Grade" and adding some school-themed ephemera were the finishing touches.

I wanted to get my son's elementary album finished back in March, but got distracted doing other things, so here at last is another layout for him. S'more Fun Layout for Lasting Memories #799

It's Sunday again, and that means that Maureen over at Lasting Memories has another fun tic tac toe board for us to play along with. I love this one because it's very versatile, with some squares being very feminine and others more neutral or even rustic! I chose to go with the middle row across for my layout: strips of paper + squares + twine. Can't wait to see what everyone else does with this board, so pop on over to Lasting Memories and check it out. Here's the board:

And here's my layout:

Recipe:

Summer Vibes papers
Candy Apple, Glacier, Lemonade, Toffee, Shortbread, Espresso, Mocha, Brown Bag, Black & White cardstock
Candy Apple & Glacier ink
Mars Black fineliner pen (iBayam)
Summer Vibes stickers
Color Kaleidoscope sticker - arrows (American Crafts)
Creme Brulee baker's twine
Lumberjack Plaid Distress Spritz (Ranger)
Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge: tag, yellow stars

Car Show Layout

I decided a few years ago that I would just make elementary school albums for each of my kids, since there aren't tons of photos from middle and high school, so even though this event was a fundraiser at one of my kid's schools, I think I am going to put it in the family album. What do you all think? Do you seem to have an abundance of school related photos from your kids' younger years, and then it drops off sharply once they finish elementary school? Anyway, I was happy that my order from A Cherry on Top arrived this week so I could use the Carta Bella patterned papers and the Nuvo Drops on this layout, combined with some items that have been in my stash for years. Enjoy!

Recipe:
You're a Classic stamp set (CTMH)
Classic Car Show, Stripe Paint Job & Blast Soda Caps papers (Carta Bella)
Espresso, Sage & Sapphire cardstock (CTMH)

Since it's a Sunday, there is a new challenge over at Lasting Memories. I just love being on the design team for this fun blog, and I hope you come check out the challenge and play along with a layout of your own. We are doing tic tac toe boards this month, so here is the second one. I chose to use all the squares! It sounds challenging, but it really wasn't. This month has flown by, and we're already at the last Sunday, which means the final Lasting Memories challenge for April is here. Today's challenge is to choose between THIS: use brand new, whole pieces of paper or THAT; use all scraps except the base. I decided to go with THAT, and pulled out some papers from an old kit. I did have one full piece that I used as the base, but the other piece and all my cardstock are scraps. Feel free to join us over at Lasting Memories to play along with this and any of the other challenges before the link-up closes on May 2nd!

On the South Bank of the Thames Layout for LM #794

Happy Sunday, everyone, and for those of you in the northern hemisphere, I hope you are enjoying the spring weather. It's a little rainy here in Southern California, but it makes a nice change from the high temperatures of the past week. It's reveal day over at Lasting Memories, and I am hosting the THIS OR THAT challenges this month. I decided to go with the THAT option today: create a title using die-cuts and/or stamps. (The other option was to use alphabet stickers). I love the versatility of die-cuts - any size you need - and the limitless color options of both die-cuts and stamps, plus you never run out of that one letter you seem to need, which has been my experience with stickers! Hope you decide to hop on over to the blog and share your layout using either stickers or die-cut/stamps in your title.

Trinity Alphabet stamp set
Avonlea and Sparkle & Shine papers

I wasn't feeling the mojo to finish up my son's elementary school album last week before he turned 21, but I got going today and completed another double page spread, so at least I am making progress! Even though this was over a decade ago, I remember very clearly how my son wasn't sure about science camp because it meant sleeping away from home, but he ended up enjoying it a lot thanks to his friends. Walk Through the American Revolution Layout

My kids' elementary school does some pretty amazing history programs, including Walk Through the American Revolution, where each 5th grader dresses up as a historical figure from the period, and they work together with a facilitator to tell the story of the Revolution. My son got to be General Cornwallis, and he had to memorize some lines (not his strong suit) and answer some questions. He did a good job, and the whole presentation was really enjoyable to watch.

I was going to journal directly on my cardstock on the right hand page, but then I decided to create a replica of my son's coat using my Cricut and needed somewhere to put it, so I added a journaling card that will flip up to reveal the journaling on the back. Here's the journaling:

And here's a close-up of the coat, of which I am a teeny bit proud!

14 Layout

For his 14th birthday, my son just wanted to go video gaming with four friends, so I only have a couple of photos of the event, but it made a nice change from the 200 photos we took at my other kiddo's birthday party! I'm still taking photos of my layouts because I don't have a new scanner yet, so that's why half of the layout looks a lot darker than the other. I'm sure there's a technique to photographing layouts, but I haven't figured it out yet.

UPDATE:
The file folder opens up to display a journaling spot. I haven't written my journaling yet because my son needs to give me more information about his memories of the event, but I would probably have to cover up all the names anyways, so I decided to go ahead and show what it looks like with just the blank card. I also included a embossed piece of cardstock that I sanded so the words show up better; haven't tried that in a while, but I like how it turned out.

Recipe:
Vicki Boutin Mixed Media patterned paper (American Crafts)
Glacier & Lagoon cardstock
Glacier ink
Vicki Boutin Old Soul ephemera & stickers (American Crafts)
Birdsong Ephemera Bits (49 and Market)
Washi tape (Recollections)
Happy Birthday embossing folder (Cuttlebug)
Cricut Design Space: file folder
Pattern: scraplift from Lisa at Scrapbook.com
Challenges: Heart's Quest Celebration of Love #2 BEWAS themes - birthday; Can You Handle the Pressure? Anything goes with an embossing folder - I used a birthday themed one; NBUS Challenge #83 - my never before used schtuff is the washi tape; Crafter’s Café Anything goes with optional twist: one for the boys; Little Red Wagon #844 Picturing Love - I couldn't resist adding this layout to the challenge since my son not only invited his current girlfriend to his birthday celebration, but also the girl he knew was interested in him and whom he subsequently ended up dating!

One True Love Layout

My hubby and I seldom go out to dinner on Valentine's Day because the restaurants are crowded and the service is usually very slow. Instead, we wait a day or two and then go out to celebrate, as we did in these photos. For some reason, the photo my hubby took of me had lots of issues with focus, but it's the only one I had of me from that evening, so I decided to try to rescue it using AI. It's still not perfect, but much better than the original. Glad AI is useful for something other than kids plagiarizing essays. LOL! I created the leaf paper on the left using stamps and a stencil, something I rarely do, but I like the result here.

Recipe:
Something Splendid & Background Elements stamp sets
Vicki Boutin Mixed Media patterned paper (American Crafts)
Dusty Rose Sunflower paper (Keeping Memories Alive)
Mini Powder Curtain paper (Chatterbox)

Kimberly Crest Layout

I have been struggling with lots of pain from an infected tooth that resulted in me needing a root canal, and so I haven't been really with it the last week, but I finally finished the layout that's been on my desk for several days. It's a continuation of the weekend getaway my hubby and I took for our anniversary in 2019. We love historic homes, so it was a treat to visit Kimberly Crest, a California state landmark in Redlands. We weren't permitted to take photos inside the house, but the outside was magnificent, as you can see from the photos we were allowed to take. I pulled out some lovely papers from a MAMBI wedding collection someone had given me, not my usual style but perfect for these photos. Does anyone else have the experience of being the recipient of scrapbooking supplies that someone else doesn't want, but assumes, since you are a scrapbooker, that you will instantly have a use for? LOL! I'm not sure when I will use the rest of this collection, but was glad to have the papers for this layout.

Recipe:
Stitched Journaling Panel stamp (Autumn Leaves)
Bonnie Belle Wedding papers (MAMBI)
White Daisy cardstock
Peacock ink
