Today's Lasting Memories challenge gave me a chance to get nostalgic about a much loved but now defunct scrapbooking company: Close to My Heart. Soccer Smiles Layout

My daughter's 2018 soccer team had bright green uniforms, so when it came to scrapping her picture day photos, I went with the brightest green I could find in my scrap pile! Then I pulled out a bunch of sports themed stamps and added patterns to the hexagons that I cut out using my Cricut.

Hello Trouble Layout for Lasting Memories #738

Hello to all you scrappers out there. It's time for another Lasting Memories design team reveal, and Sandy asked us to use 6" x 6" papers on a 12" x 12" layout. I am working on filling in a few blank pages in my 2006 album, so I chose some photos of my son Elliot as a baby. He has ADHD, and while it's not so bad now that he's almost 20 and has learned better, when he was little he was into everything!  I don't have a lot of 6" x 6" papers, but I pulled out a pad that I had received as a prize and decided the papers would work well on this page. I had fun challenging myself to do something I don't often try; hopefully you decide to use up some smaller papers and join us over at Lasting Memories before the challenge ends on March 1!

EMS Sketch Challenge #114 + Inmost Ward Layout

Anyone in need of a new sketch? I wanted to scrap a few more pictures from the Tower of London and decided to create a new sketch featuring 6 uncropped 4' x 6' photos. It's actually a pretty versatile sketch, since either side can be easily used on its own. Lions, Tigers and Bears, Oh My Layout

I sometimes struggle with scrapbooking zoo pictures, because we tend to take photos of the same animals every time, but on this visit to the Los Angeles Zoo, the kids went on the Conservation Carousel, which features 66 hand carved animals/insects, representing many endangered species. This carousel is so unique; after all, where else can you sit on a giant praying mantis? I added the little sloth and a few insect stickers to the layout to go along with the animal theme, and set it all in a jungle, as shown by the floral paper. Hope my animals are happy there!

One Awesome Kid Layout

This layout went through so many iterations that I lost count, but it looks nothing like what I originally had in mind. Can anyone relate? I had two random photos of my son that I wanted to scrap, so I chose a two photos sketch from Sketch-n-Scrap, but I decided not to use one of the photos because it was very dark. Instead I grabbed a pocket card and added it in place of one photo. I'm not sure I love the rainbow paper on here, but it had been in my stash for a while, so I am happy I used some of it.

Giraffe Snapshot Layout

Whenever we visit the zoo, it seems the giraffes are always hanging out at the far end of their enclosure, so it was pretty special to have one come right up close to us and take a leaf out of the hand of a person right next to us! I can't believe I actually scrapbooked this wildlife encounter using pink paper, but hopefully it works.

The Truth About Flat Stanley Layout

My daughter did a Flat Stanley Project in 2nd grade where she created a Flat Stanley and mailed it to my sister, who then took a bunch of pictures of Stanley doing all kinds of things, then she mailed it and a journal about their time together back to us. I saved Flat Stanley, the photos, and the journal, and was going to title this layout Flat Stanley, but then I opened up a new stamp set I had purchased and it had the conversation starter "The truth about . . " and that sparked a whole new idea for the layout. I wrote a whole bunch of "truths"' about Stanley based on the photos my sister sent, and added them to a pull out tag on the layout. Really fun to get creative that way, and I hope you enjoy the result!

National Gallery 1500s Layout

I ran out of pictures from 2014 to scrapbook, so while I'm waiting for my order to arrive, I turned my attention back to my London photos from 2017. Since we took a little over 3000 photos and I'm currently on Day 5 of a 14 day trip, I have a feeling I will be scrapping these photos on and off for the next five years! Anyway, for these photos from the National Gallery, featuring some of our favorite paintings from the 1500s, I decided to scrapbook just a few and place some more in a pocket page. Not including the white, there are only two colors on this layout: Barn Red and 3 shades of grey. I did this for a challenge I'm hosting over at Scrapbook.com, and let me tell you, it requires a lot of self-discipline not to add more colors - LOL!

Unforgettable Elephants Layout

Four years ago, my neighbor moved and gave me a box of scrapbooking paper she didn't want to take with her. One of the designs had elephants on it, which isn't something I would ordinarily need, but I'm finally putting it to use! It was perfect for these elephant photos taken at the L.A. Zoo. The elephant accents were punched out of the portion of the paper that is covered by the other other papers. For the title, I tried a new technique with stamped outline letters that I partially filled in using an alcohol marker. I like the finished look, so hopefully you do, too.

Here's what it says on the hidden journaling on the tag: The elephant encounter at the zoo was really cool! The zoo keepers actually ask the elephants to touch their trunk to the top of their head or to lie down as ways of checking their health and getting safe access to parts of the animal they need to examine. It was an experience we will not forget soon.

Stash Busters October Week 4

I am hosting the new Stash Busters challenge over at Splitcoast Stampers for anyone who has tons more scrapbooking supplies than she could use in the next 10 years - LOL! I would love to have you create a layout using the listed items and then link up at SCS using the link below.

If you are anything like me, you have tons of older product stashed away in corners of your scrapping area, gathering cobwebs while you concentrate on newer items. This month, I am challenging you to use up certain items from your stash. I'll post a new list each Thursday this month (except the 31st), and you have until the last day of the month to scrap your layouts using the products. If you complete all four layouts, you will get an honorable mention for the month! Sound fun? Let's get started.

Since this is our final challenge this month, I'm mixing it up by giving you two options from which to chose:

Option 1
• 2 Patterned papers that are older than one year
• Felt or fabric
• 3 Buttons
• 1 Rub-on

Option 2
Find a layout that you completed at least a year previously but never put pictures on, and get some pictures printed and onto the layout!

You can use additional products, but you must use at least one of each of the items listed. If you don't have an item in your stash, please don't rush out and buy it! Just substitute a similar item from your stash. Happy hunting!

I went with Option 2 for my layout and used an incomplete layout that I've had in my stash for several years. Woohoo!

Stamping Textures Tutorial - Let's Ride Layout

It's time for Virtual Scrapbook Night over at Splitcoast Stampers, and we're focusing on techniques. You can play along until next Saturday, so let's get started! Here's a fun technique using a stamp and any textured item you choose.

Tech VSBN 05
1. Pick out a clear stamp that has a large, smooth surface area on the back. Place the stamp, design side down, on an acrylic block, and ink up the smooth back of the stamp with the ink of your choice.

2. Press the inked stamp onto a textured surface (one that's easily cleaned or disposable). I chose bubble wrap.

 3. Next stamp the image onto your cardstock.

 4. Repeat the above until the surface of the cardstock is covered.

 5. Use the resulting patterned cardstock on your layout or card.

For my layout and sample above, I chose to use bubblewrap, which resulted in a slightly different image each time I stamped it, since the bubblewrap gives under pressure. For a crisper impression, choose a more solid textured surface. I used one of my son's Lego blocks and a rectangular stamp to create the Lego pieces, and you can almost see the Lego logo on the image. Since Lego are rather slick, I had to hold my hand very steady when pressing against them so the stamp wouldn't skid around!

Week 23 Layout Linky + EMS Sketch Challenge 30 Part 2 - Make a Wish

As promised, here is an alternate look at EMS Sketch Challenge 30. The changes I made include the following:
1. I rotated the right hand page 180 degrees.
2. I reversed the pages.
3. I moved the journaling from the bottom of the page into a column next to the two smaller photos. This allowed me to add an additional 6x4 photo.
4. I moved the title to the bottom and added some embellishments to the place where the title previously was.
5. Instead of a large circle element, I have several smaller circles scattered around the layout.
I have more ideas for changing up this layout, so I'll try to get some more scrapped. Now, consider yourself challenged!

Week 10 Layout Linky + EMS SKetch Challenge 25 - The Real Story Behind the Ruins Layout

I'm really late posting my layout again this week, but I have a great excuse - pneumonia! Yes, I have been in bed all week, coughing, wheezing, chest pains, etc. Not a fun week. I managed to put together a layout in spite of that (plus having my parents-in-law here and a birthday party to plan), so I'm pretty proud of myself. This week, the Heart 2 Heart Challenge blog asked us to create a scene using three or more stamps, which was perfect for this layout. (Actually, I just went back and checked and it was supposed to be a scene on a card, but hopefully they'll forgive my illness-induced confusion!) I used the mountains and clouds from Beautiful Things, the grass from True Happiness, and the bricks from Around the Block, three totally different style stamp sets, yet I think they came together really well. I also used a sketch this week, so feel free to check it out for next week's layout if you like it. Can't wait to see your layouts for week 10, ladies!

LOAD #24 - Cousins

Today was quite a day. Between getting ready for another open house, attending church, going to the pumpkin patch while we were banished from our home, and getting home to find the open house was still going strong (an hour after it was supposed to finish), I have not had a moment to scrap. Plus I'm all out of photos (one of the hazards of scrapping every day) and I did not get more pictures sent to Costco to be printed. Woe is me! I did not get a layout done yet today, and it may not happen. But I promise I'll catch up tomorrow. LOADies, please post your layouts and I'll add mine after I get photos developed.

Well, I promised I would get this layout posted days ago and it just did not happen. Sorry! At last, I have it ready to go, so here it is. I was inspired by a layout created by Michele (Chelemom) at Splitcoast Stampers. She was the featured scrapper last week, and we were challenged to scraplift a layout. I love the look of her layouts, but I have a hard time doing all the layers, so this was quite a challenge for me. I finally decided to use layers but not worry about the eclectic style part. All my papers and stickers are from the same paper collection and they all look like they match, but I think that's okay. Happy Hunting Layout

I have had a layout sitting on my desk for a week, and I could not finish it! Something about it just wasn't right. This afternoon, I finally decided to rip it apart and start over. I used a Becky Higgins' sketch to re-create the left page. I'm still not loving it, but at least it is done and ready to go in my scrapbook. It's been a bit disappointing not to have anything to scan, because I am so excited about the new scanner I got for Mother's Day. Since I did the LOAD challenge in January, I've been wanting a scanner that could scan a whole 12"x12" page in one pass, and my hubby found one that didn't cost the earth. Love that man! I was able to scan this double page spread in two passes, and then I simply stitched it together and it was ready to go. Cool, huh?
