Small World Layout

For these four photos of my younger kids' first experience on the Small World ride, I started with a sketch from Sketch-n-Scrap, but adapted it to fit my larger photos. I struggled a bit with the color scheme since the photos were so colorful, but eventually settled on the light blue background to tone down the bright orange in the upper right picture. I also used the bird paper to tie together some of the other colors, while still having the orange dot paper and other orange accents in a nod to the aforementioned photo.

I started out my sketch journey many years ago and, despite bumps in the road and extremely long pauses in which I didn't create any sketches, I have finally arrived at my 100th EMS Sketch! While this isn't my 100th sketch out of all the sketches I've done (I created some for a challenge blog and others for Splitcoast Stampers), it's still a cool milestone for me. So Fun {Public Safety Open House} Layout

My husband took our three boys to this annual event in 2014. It's hosted by the city fire department in order to reach out to the community regarding public safety. He took a ton of photos, so I'm  scrapping a few and putting the rest in photo storage pages. Here's my first traditional page for this event.

My kids are too old for this place now, but when they were younger, it felt magical to them! I started my layout with a sketch from Let's Sketch, and drew some inspiration from Use Your Stuff's mood board (green background, brown trim, trees of various heights).

George & Elizabeth Layout

When in London, we took pictures of the statues of Queen Elizabeth II's parents, George VI and Queen Elizabeth. The little I knew about them was gleaned from the Netflix series the Crown and the movie The King's Speech, so I checked them out on Wikipedia and was surprised to find out that they actually married for love, something that is probably overlooked in all the hoopla surrounding George's older brother Edward's abdication so he could marry the love of his life! Using lyrics from a couple of Bryan Adams' songs, I played off the fact that he asked her to marry him and she refused twice because she was "afraid never, never again to be free to think, speak and act as I feel I really ought to." His determination won the day and they lived quite happily together for 29 years until his death in 1952.

I tucked a journaling card behind the green cardstock.

London from Above Layout

I'm not exactly zipping through my London layouts, but they are slowly getting done. Here's another one from our trip to St. Paul's Cathedral. Having injured my knee right before we left on our trip, I was not up to climbing the 528 steps to get to the Golden Gallery on the exterior of the dome, even with a great view like this in store, so my hubby took lots of pictures for me to scrapbook instead! Many thanks to my Splitcoast Stampers buddy Lela, whose layout I scraplifted, although I made some modifications to fit my panoramic pictures.

You Make My Heart Melt Layout

I decided to challenge myself to create some white space on this sketch, and then not try to fill it up when I scrapbooked a layout using the sketch. This was one of those layouts that I kept fussing with, pulling things off and trying something different, until I finally decided to just let it be! Hopefully I achieved something resembling my original idea. I had no idea what I wanted for my title, but the Lasting Memories' challenge for this week was the word "up,' and that inspired my title. Lego Castle Layout

For my latest layout, featuring pictures from the Lego exhibit at the Discovery Science Center, I drew inspiration from two expired challenges. Just because challenges are over, doesn't mean we can't be inspired by them, right? First, I used a great February sketch from Stuck?! Sketches. Then I was inspired by the Lasting Memories' "And the award goes to . . ." challenge. It helped me give a fun twist to my journaling!

Football Roadtrip Layout

I posted a sketch over at Splitcoast Stampers yesterday, so I thought it would be a good idea to actually use it to create a layout - LOL! I changed it up a little by making my circles a little smaller and adding some extra embellishments, but I followed the basic pattern. I wasn't sure adding the Honey yellow strip to the layout would work or whether it would be too bright, but I pulled out my (extremely neglected) crimper to add some dimension and then added some inking to the edge of the strip, so I think it turned out okay.
