Stash Busters December Week 4

If you have tons more scrapbooking supplies than you could use in the next ten years, I have a Stash Busters challenge over at Splitcoast Stampers just for you. Just create a layout using the listed items and then link up at SCS using the link below.

This month, I am challenging you to use up certain items from your stash and then link your completed layout here so we can all get excited over it! I'll post a new list each Thursday this month, and you have until December 31st to scrap your layouts using the products. If you complete all four layouts, you will get an honorable mention for the month! Sound fun? Let's get started.

• Felt or fabric

LOAD #8 + Week 41 Layout Linky - December 25th

I sometimes struggle with titles for layouts, especially with subjects that I scrapbook a lot (birthdays, holidays, soccer games, etc.), so I was really happy when the inspiration for this title landed in my lap. I pulled out a set of Christmas stamps and the one I decided to use had December 25th on it. I've never used that as the title of a Christmas layout, so problem solved!

EMS Sketch Challenge 30 Part 4 - Lil' Bikers

I thought I'd share one last variation on Sketch 30. For this one, I only used the left hand page of the sketch, and, after reversing it, I replaced the top 3"x3" photos with three 3"x4" photos. I deleted two of the 3"x3" photos and added a 5"x4" photo to the bottom. Chantal from Split Coast Stampers posted a challenge to Spice Up Your Life by using the colors of Indian cuisine on your layout. I chose mustard (Sunflower), turmeric (Goldrush), tomato (Tulip), black pepper (Black) & chili green (New England Ivy). I love how this challenge made me think outside the box for my color combo! EMS Sketch Challenge 30 Part 3 - Pastor Appreciation Party

For this take on Sketch Challenge 30, I simply swapped the left and right hand pages. Instead of the large circle, I used lots of little circles, and the journaling started lower on the page. I'm still working on some challenges from Splitcoast Stampers virtual scrapbook night, and one was to find inspiration from a Pampered Chef recipe. I picked the Red, White & Blueberry Pie recipe, with the pie-crust being my Bamboo background, the strawberries and blueberries represented by the red and blue circles, and the white chocolate squares (anyone hungry yet?) being - you guessed it - white squares! I also had to use the word party in my title, and use a "go-to" embellishment, in my case, brads. That's quite a few requirements, so I'm happy I got them all in.

LOAD #17 - Sedona

Oops, I can't believe I forgot to post a layout yesterday. My only excuse is that I got really busy creating some cards from a Olivia Level 1 kit, and so I never got around to scanning my layout. Sorry! Anyway, here it is in all its extremely simple glory. It's very picture-heavy, so I decided to leave embellishments to the barest minimum.

LOAD #6 - Early Christmas

I wanted to cram lots of photos on this layout, so I chose a very simple background that would not overwhelm the photos. It turned out a little too simple, so I raided my button hoard - um, I mean stash - for decorative accents. I had seen other crafters make button trees and thought it looked like fun, so I tried one. Yes, it was fun!

LOAD #30 - Grand Canyon Deer Farm

Another layout from our Arizona trip. The deer farm was pretty cool, and I will always remember the feeling of a herd of deer competing to be hand fed by our family. I used the Week 78 sketch from Nuts about Sketches, but I flipped the pages.

EMS Sketch Challenge 20 - First Dance Layout

In case you're wondering what's up with the timing of this post, I am officially changing my EMS Sketch Challenge to every other week on Wednesdays. Sundays are generally busy times at our house, and it's been too hard to get a sketch and layout ready for Monday every week. You can still use the sketch any time; just leave me a comment so that I can check it out! So, here's my sketch for this week. I just love these photos of my son and his first dance partner. This layout used more pictures from Danielle's princess party, and we thought it was really cool that Danielle's parents hired a dance instructor to teach the kids how to dance! I designed and cut the curved pieces using my Wishblade, and I did the journaling in storybook style, like my previous layout from this party.

EMS Sketch Challenge 15 - Spa Day Layout

Getting today's sketch posted has been a comedy of errors! I had a sketch ready and photos printed, but as I was trying to figure out what papers to use for the layout (a princess party for a friend's daughter), I realized that the Daydream paper pack from CTMH would be perfect for it. The only problem? I never thought I would need it, so I have to order it. Maybe you'll see what was today's sketch and layout next week. In the meantime, I whipped up a new sketch and created a layout. Unfortunately, I didn't have any pictures printed, so I had to fake it by adding them to the layout after I scanned it and cropping out the portions where the flowers should slightly overlap the photos. Not really fun, but at last it's done.

I had to share this fun layout because I got to use pink on it! It doesn't happen that often, so I get really excited when it does. I used a Becky Higgins' sketch for the design, and the adorable Topstitch papers. I like how the looping stitching on the papers creates a sense of movement, since there was a lot of moving going on when these photos were taken.

EMS Sketch Challenge 12 - Impact Layout

Good Monday morning, everyone. I woke up bright and early and started working on a layout for this morning's sketch, and here it is! I knew I wanted to include a lot of journaling on this layout, so I created a sketch with a long journaling strip on the side. I also used standard 4"x6" prints, and just had to crop one into a square. This layout came together quick and easy. I haven't posted many layouts this month, not because I haven't been scrapping, but because I've been trying to use up my non-CTMH supplies, and I post all my non-CTMH layout on my Splitcoast Stampers gallery. I can't decide what my favorite part of the layout is (beside the cute pictures of my son and his kitty cat): the stamped lion, the buttons, the ribbon, the title. LOAD #19 - Haas Lilienthal House

If you are ever visiting San Francisco, the Haas-Lilienthal House is well worth seeing. It survived the fire following the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, and is now open for guided tours. This layout holds a few of the pictures we took of the outside of the house. You can take pictures inside, but are not allowed to use a flash, so those pictures didn't look so great. I finally used my Around the Block stamp set, which was a stamp of the month last fall for CTMH. It was so much fun building a house! I usually do a sketch challenge on Monday, but I am skipping it this week. Hopefully I'll be able to pick it up again next Monday. Sorry!

LOAD #27 - Dinner Prep

My parents' church sponsored a community dinner this year for Thanksgiving, and since we were visiting my parents for the week, we got to pitch in and help. Both my mom and sister were wearing blue shirts, but I am a little tired of that color right now (my kids don't seem to wear anything else, but I guess that's my fault since I purchase their clothes), so I decided to try emphasizing some of the other colors in the photos. I couldn't find the perfect B&T paper in my stash, so I decided to create some using my stamps. Recipe Box was a natural choice for a food-oriented layout, and I haven't used Intrinsic Backgrounds much, so I thought I would try that out as well. The buttons and journaling placement are pretty much a direct scraplift from the layout in Imagine.

Iolani Palace Layout

For some reason, this is my favorite layout I've scrapped from our Hawaii vacation. I just like how all the elements came together to create a pleasing picture. I don't even have any journaling, but that's okay; I have a ton on the layouts I've done of Iolani Palace from other Hawaii trips. The scan doesn't do it justice. It washed out the bottom of the layout so you can't tell that the cardstock is the same color as the strip above (Sweet Leaf), so you'll have to imagine that, please. Okay, enough said. Just enjoy the view.

10 Things I Love About You

I created this layout a few months ago, but I thought I would post it since it honors my favorite dad, my dear hubby Greg! (Sorry, Daddy, I love you, but I have to love Greg more!) I chose to use the Cherish pattern "Beauty in Repetition" because it features 10 photos to go along with my 10 things theme. Most of these photos were ones I had printed up for other layouts and ended up not using, but they showed different facets of Greg: father, husband, nature lover, coffee drinker, handyman, and all-around fun guy. By combining them, I was able to show sides of Greg that many people don't see. This is a really fun technique. I challenge you to try it the next time you are celebrating a special event with a loved one (birthday, Mother's or Father's Day, etc.). I guarantee they will get a kick out of seeing 10 reasons you think they are special! It was a fun challenge as well to put together the word cluster that I used for my title. I mixed 5 different stamp sets (but you can use as many as you like) to get this effect, and I loved how it turned out.
