Planes of Fame Layout

I had pulled out some photos and cardstock for a flight museum layout back in December with the intention of playing along with one of Color My Heart's Color Dares, but the color scheme never quite gelled for me so I set it aside. It's been bugging me ever since, so I finally sat down and finished it. Turns out the addition of one more color (Harbour, which was not in the color palette) made all the difference. I didn't think I would like this color when CTMH came out with it, but it has turned out to be quite a handy foil for other color schemes. Who knew? Well, besides the talented team over at CTMH, of course - LOL!

Thanks to my hubby Greg for helping me with the journaling!

LOAD #26 - Dinos and More

Another layout for the Natural History Museum, this time featuring some of the dinosaurs we saw there. You may not be able to tell because the photo came out a little dark, but the vertical photo on the left page shows a really cool T-rex skeleton, well worth the money we paid for admission!

LOAD #30 - LOL!

It's my last LOAD of the month, and it isn't done. Today was just too crazy for me to complete my layout. It is in progress, though, and I will post it tomorrow. Hopefully Michelle and Linda had better luck with theirs. Thanks for participating, ladies!

******************************
Here's my final LOAD layout, finally finished. My week was insanely busy, which is why it took me so long to post this. It goes with my previous Laugh for Haiti layout, but this time I talked a little more about the comedy show put on by Michael Jr. He was absolutely hilarious! I was feeling a little sick from laughing so much by the time the show was over. The layout uses the You Rock papers again, and I think I'm in love. The colors are great, and I love the tough look! I also want to say thanks to Linda and Michelle, who scrapped along with me this month. You ladies did a great job with your LOAD! I will do the prize drawing as soon as both of you have posted all your layouts.

A Little Everything Card Workshop

A few friends are coming over tomorrow night to make cards. It's a small workshop, only four cards, but I know we'll have lots of fun. I really love the March Stamp of the Month, A Little Everything, and I think it is so versatile, so I decided to use it on all my cards. In the interest of keeping the cost down, I used mostly scraps, and I'm not using major embellishments, but I had fun with the Liquid Glass and Bitty Sparkles. I'm open to feedback, although I won't have a lot of time tomorrow to change anything, so please tell me if you have any minor tweaks that would improve the cards. Thanks to all the ladies who participated in the March SOTM Blog Hop. Their creativity totally inspired me! Special thanks to Annette Green for her Easter card, which was the basis for my Easter card.

LOAD #31 - Hey Grandpa

This is it! My final layout of LOAD! I am so excited that I actually did this. Thanks to Monica, Linda, and Beth for participating in this challenge with me, and for pushing me to get my layouts posted so that they could post theirs. Even though I need a break for a while, I am actually looking forward to doing this again in April. Who's with me? Now, on to the layout. I'm really loved scrapbooking these photos of my dad with my younger son. It's a blessing to see their relationship developing like this, especially since they do not get to see each other very often. No exceptional techniques used here, but here's my tip of the day: altering stamped images. After I stamped the arrow, I realized it was a little too long for the spot where I wanted to place it, so I cut off part of the tail, re-inked just the bottom of my stamp, lined it up with my previous image, and stamped a new line of dots across the bottom. I love being able to see where I'm stamping. I opens up new worlds of possibilities for my artwork. This is just a little tip, but there is so much more you can do.

My Favorite Bakers Layout

My kids love bananas, but they get really picky about eating them once the bananas have marks on them. I'd make them eat them anyway, except I love it when my hubby looks at the bananas and tells me to save them so he can make banana bread. Lately, Elliot has joined in on the fun. I'm not sure how much of a help he really is, but the two of them sure look cute as they whip up a delicious loaf of banana bread! I don't bake, but I had lots of fun using my new Recipe Box stamp set to record this yummy event.

Father's Day Layout

I didn't get much scrapping done this weekend since I attended the Women of Faith Conference in Anaheim (Woohoo!), but I eked out this layout on Sunday after church. It's another of Helen Onulak's challenges, this time using the Imagine pattern, Sweet Symphony. I featured these sweet pictures of my sons with their daddy this past Father's Day, and the Stardust paper was an excellent accompaniment, as well as giving me the idea for a title. While creating this layout, I discovered that, even thought I have tons of stamps and supplies, I tend to reach for a few of my favorites most of the time. I love the versatility of the Hodge Podge Alphabet stamp set, and Star Struck has such cute arrows, stars, and circles that it goes with many layouts. Another favorite item is the Basic Craft buttons. These just debuted this month in the Fall/Winter CTMH catalog, but I have already used them on several layouts. The neutral colors make them so easy to work with. If you don't already have these three items, they are "must buys." Put them on your list - you won't regret it. I only have 4 more Hawaii layouts to scrapbook, so I'm going to go sit at my desk right now and see how many I can crank out. I really want to finish these by the end of the week so that I can move on to others subjects, like catching up on Adrian's school album and our current family photos. Wish me luck!

Iolani Palace Layout

For some reason, this is my favorite layout I've scrapped from our Hawaii vacation. I just like how all the elements came together to create a pleasing picture. I don't even have any journaling, but that's okay; I have a ton on the layouts I've done of Iolani Palace from other Hawaii trips. The scan doesn't do it justice. It washed out the bottom of the layout so you can't tell that the cardstock is the same color as the strip above (Sweet Leaf), so you'll have to imagine that, please. Okay, enough said. Just enjoy the view.

Waimea Falls Layout

Another layout from the Waimea Valley Audubon Center. These pictures were taken at Waimea Falls. Not sure I love this layout, but I do like the Moon Doggie papers, and I had fun poking a border in the curved piece and the title piece using my paper piercer. I realized afterwards that I had a cute picture of my family that I forgot to use, which may be why I am not entirely happy with this layout. Oh well, maybe I'll make a "Hawaii in Review" page to put at the end of the album, and I can use it there. I'm off to do some more scrapping. Have a great weekend!

Arizona Memorial Layout

I completed layout #2 for my Hawaii vacation album! I am trying to keep my albums small so that they won't take over the house, so unless there is a lot to scrap about, I am doing one double page layout per event / topic. On this layout, I had planned to put the journaling above the title, but it just wasn't working out. I didn't want to remove any of the pictures, so I decided to add a Flip-Flap to the memory protector to hold another picture and my journaling. I love these cool little things. Kudos to Jeanette Lynton and the creative team at CTMH for seeing a great way to create interactive pages without cutting into your page protectors. I had more than enough room to tell the story without making my layout look crowded. Thanks also to Tresa Black for her easy to follow video tutorial on how to use the Flip-Flaps. Now on to layout #3!

Retirement Layout

Sorry I haven't posted for a few days - been busy with a scrapbooking party and church events. Here's my latest layout. We have a good friend who was lucky enough to retire at 55, and I took these pictures at his retirement party. I created this layout using the Cherish pattern Dramatic Fashion, and once again I discovered I didn't have the color of cardstock I needed. I really need to order some more cardstock soon! To create the color I needed (Ponderosa Pine), I used the same brayer technique I demonstrated in my Easter Sunday layout, but this time I wanted a patchy effect, so I rolled my brayer in several different directions. This created uneven coverage, exactly what I wanted. The embellishments were created using a variety of stamp sets, including one of my favorites, He Said She Said (used on the innermost circles). I had finished the layout, but it still needed something, so I took my paper piercer and a spongy mat (similar to the Versamat) and poked holes all around the journaling box and one of the bottom photos. I tend to forget about this technique, but it's a lot easier than sewing! Just in case you're wondering, in the bottom right photo Gerry is demonstrating his golf swing.
