LOAD # 25 - Take Me to the Fair

The whole time I was scrapping this layout, the song Guenevere sings in Camelot kept running through my mind, so when the time came to add a title, it had to be "You May Take Me to the Fair." I used a combination of the old (stickers) and the new (sketch from Sketch Support blog) on this layout, but I altered the stickers a little by backing some of them with white cardstock so they didn't take on the color of the background, plus I popped up part of the prize ribbon with 3-D foam tape. I also totally altered the sketch, but at least it gave me a starting point. No journaling yet on this layout, because my husband took the boys and a friend's daughter to the fair, so I want him to journal. We'll see if he agrees to do so!

My kids are great at husking corn. I can't stand doing it, but they actually think it's fun, so I had to snap a few pictures! You probably can't see it very well, but I cut an ear of corn using a Cricut (I don't have one but the ladies at the scrapbook retreat were generous in sharing theirs), and then used a honey marker to draw the kernels.

LOAD #28 - Celebrate

If you are looking for the New Product Blog Hop, please scroll down to the next post! For those following my LOAD challenge, here's a layout I created using photos from a cowboy birthday party. I had previously considered getting a Western themed stamp set, but never followed through because it seemed a little limited in use. I really needed something wild West for this layout, so I re-purposed two new stamp sets, A Twinkle (stars) and Boom (July 4th), to create my theme. Throw in a little hemp for rope, and I'm really happy with how this layout came out! Plus I have two great stamp sets to use for July 4th, bedtime layouts, and You're a Star cards, among other things. To see the details of the layout, please click on the picture.

Lady Layout

October flew by, and I didn't post many layouts, but that's because I was too busy to scrapbook. Sad but true! I decided to get out my supplies early this morning (woke up way too early because of the time change) and complete this layout that's been sitting around for months. I tried a new technique - stamping on twill ribbon - and discovered that you have to use pretty dark ink for it to show up. My friend Lisa wants me to use the Grown with Love stamp at a gathering I'm doing for her later this month, so I thought I'd get it out and experiment with it. Fun stamp set, but I'm not sure what I'll have the ladies do with it yet. Creating the foilage for the tree was kinda time consuming, so I may have to get creative. After I scanned the layout, I realized that the bottom of it seemed kind of plain, so I added a rub-on, but I didn't want to re-scan it, so that's why the two pictures are different.

10 Things I Love About You

I created this layout a few months ago, but I thought I would post it since it honors my favorite dad, my dear hubby Greg! (Sorry, Daddy, I love you, but I have to love Greg more!) I chose to use the Cherish pattern "Beauty in Repetition" because it features 10 photos to go along with my 10 things theme. Most of these photos were ones I had printed up for other layouts and ended up not using, but they showed different facets of Greg: father, husband, nature lover, coffee drinker, handyman, and all-around fun guy. By combining them, I was able to show sides of Greg that many people don't see. This is a really fun technique. I challenge you to try it the next time you are celebrating a special event with a loved one (birthday, Mother's or Father's Day, etc.). I guarantee they will get a kick out of seeing 10 reasons you think they are special! It was a fun challenge as well to put together the word cluster that I used for my title. I mixed 5 different stamp sets (but you can use as many as you like) to get this effect, and I loved how it turned out. Teacher Appreciation Cards

I didn't get my box with new stamps in it until yesterday afternoon and so couldn't finish my thank you card for my BSF leader (maybe I'll be able to post it by tomorrow). Instead I worked on cards for Adrian and Elliot's teachers and teacher's aides. The new CTMH catalog had this really cute paper pack called Animal Cookies which seemed perfect for teacher cards. I used the Creative Basic Animal Cookies Collection, which features only two patterned papers, but I loved both of them. The cards turned out just as I wanted them - yay! - and I only used half a sheet of each patterned paper (plus cardstock, of course) to make six cards. Hmmm, I think I sense a card making workshop in the future. And here's a big shout out to all you teachers out there. You have no idea what an impact you make on your students, so, even when the going gets tough, keep up the great work. You really are making a difference!
