At the Pier Layout for Lasting Memories #736

It's time for another month of challenges over at Lasting Memories, and this time Design Team member Sandy is asking us to go back to basics. This week's challenge is to create a layout using a grid design, so I decided to go with a irregular grid that would fit the four pictures I wanted to scrap. There are so many options when using a grid, so I hope you are inspired to join in with this challenge!

Celebrate Good Times Layout

Since this layout displays a random assortment of photos taken in June 2016, I was going to title it something boring like "June Memories," but I decided to play along with Challenge YOUrself and use the song lyrics "Celebrate Good Times" as my title instead. I'm so excited I got to use the llama chipboard piece on a layout featuring an actual llama!

Click on the photo to see all the fun details!
June 4 was the first time my son Elliot had cauliflower, so the journaling space on the right hand page is popped up with foam tape, and there's a pull out tag behind it that records a funny conversation Elliot had with his dad regarding cauliflower.

Spring Blooms Layout

My husband loves to take pictures of flowers, so I usually wind up with a bunch of really pretty pictures and the decision whether or not to include them in our family scrapbooks. I decided to go for it with this batch that he took at the zoo, since I figure it's one thing I want the kids to remember about their dad - his love of beauty. Plus I love the picture of me and the kids checking out that fun bloom!

People on Parade Layout

My final 2014 Rose Parade layout! I actually only scrapbooked a few pictures from this event and put the rest in photo storage pages, something I plan to do more of this year. While I love creating layouts, I'm running out of space to store my completed albums, so I'm hoping to cut down to only two albums per year. My husband really doesn't want to move again because I've run out of storage space for my albums - LOL!

SCS Variety Challenge 204 - Rose Garden

I'm tickled pink to be hosting another Splitcoast Stampers Variety Challenge, and this may be your golden opportunity to try something new and make your friend green with envy over your talent! Okay, enough with the color puns, but hopefully they inspired you to play along using the link below. I'll be really blue if you pass up this chance to have fun (couldn't resist one last pun)!

SBVC204 - Top Marks
I’m a little slow to get on the coloring craze that’s sweeping the scrapbooking and card-making world, but seeing other people’s artwork is getting me motivated! Today’s challenge is to pull out the markers or colored pencils and add some coloring to your layout. You can start with a stamped or digital image, or you can go wild and freehand something. Whatever you decide, you’ll get top marks for completing this challenge!

And now on to my layout. In 2012, we had a membership to the Natural History Museum in Exposition Park, so we went there a lot, and, of course, we took lots of pictures! Here are a few photos of the rose garden that is next to the museum. For those who watch the t.v. show Bones, this is where the exterior shots of the "Jeffersonian" were filmed. Anyone recognize this building?
For my layout, I created a garden border to match the flower garden. The scalloped borders worked nicely as planter borders, and I went to town coloring the stamped flowers. I even popped up a couple to create a 3-D effect.

Creating Cards Layout

We're over half way through the month, so I thought it was a good time to revisit this month's sketch challenge and bring you a little more inspiration. Here's the sketch:
I turned the sketch on its side and added a tag with a picture on it. The tag would have also been a great place to put journaling, but I didn't really have much, so the picture worked for me. I realized both my samples this month have been from crafty events! I think I'll try to use the sketch a third time but for a totally different theme. Don't forget you have until the end of the month to play along with the sketch challenge and share your results.

EMS Sketch Challenge 57 - National Scrapbooking Day Bonus Sketch!

Today is National Scrapbooking Day, and although I will be celebrating all month, here's a little extra tidbit in recognition of the day: a new sketch! This is a just-get-it-done sketch, so it has room for seven photos that require minimal cropping. Just take your photos out of the developer's envelope and get down to business. I didn't include a link-up on this one, but feel free to leave a link in the comments section and I will add your layout to this post. Happy scrapping, everyone!

San Diego Zoo Layout

Since Monday was the third day of the third month, Heart 2 Heart challenged us to create a triple play. For me, that meant adding three felt shapes to my layout. I'm trying really hard to use up older papers before buying a bunch of new ones, so I pulled out the old Twitterpated paper pack and used some large pieces of patterned paper. I also used my last three pieces of chipboard that matched the Twitterpated papers, plus I added three craft buttons for another triple play. My title has three words in it, I used three patterned papers, and my final triple play is the three stitches near the title. Wow, that's a lot of threes! Don't forget to hop over to Heart 2 Heart to play along with the challenge.

ProPlayer Happy Birthday Card

As I mentioned yesterday, my card club ladies requested ProPlayer for this month's workshop. I am really struggling with using it for cards, since it's very masculine and I typically design cards for women, but here's another try! I think this one could work for guys or gals. What do you think? I started with this sketch from 4 Crafty Chicks, and ended up adding the pennant and some faux Washi tape.
