Dinos Layout

Two posts in one day - wow! I got a lot of scrapping in today, so I thought I'd share another layout with you. I wanted to play along with challenge 2 from Virtual Scrapbook Night at Splitcoast stampers: try making a layout without any white on it. Create your own “white space” without one drop of white.

I started with National Scrapbook Day Sketch 6 from 2 Broke Girls.

And here's what I came up with. I forgot I wasn't supposed to use white and I added white ribbon, so then I had to sponge my ribbon with Bamboo ink to get it to a different color! Guess I should have had the challenge right in front of me while I was working . . .

LOAD #5 - Getting Around

The page is a tribute to transportation! The journaling is on both sides of the tag, so you can't read it, but here is the text:

We used many methods of transportation in Buenos Aires, including bus and train, but our most common was taxis. It was funny to see four adults and three kids crammed into a taxi. No one seemed to use car seats or even seat belts there, so each journey was a little bit scary. At least we were jammed in so tightly that we would probably have cushioned the shock for each other in the event of a crash!

LOAD #1 - Sledding

It's the first day of the month, and I am in the mountains at a scrapbook retreat! I'm getting quite a lot done, so here is my first layout for the month. For the background, I cut out some snowflakes on a Cricut using the Art Philosophy cartridge from CTMH, and I used them as masks around which I sponged Lilac Mist ink. I placed a snowflake border and a few individual snowflakes on the page as well. Off to a good start on my LOAD, and I hope a few people want to play along with me. If so, I'll check out your blog daily for your latest layout, and please do the same for me. This will be a hard challenge considering how busy I have been lately, but I think I can, I think I can!

LOAD #23 - Happy Birthday Kaden

I couldn't find the perfect papers for this layout, so I decided to create my own. In the process, I also used the Variety Challenge from Split Coast Stampers: to create a monochromatic page. Mine uses shades of brown. This is harder than it sounds; I kept wanting to add red or blue to the mix! Hopefully the browns tone down the bright colors in the pictures. The layout didn't turn out quite how I hoped, but it will have to do! The pattern is Beauty in Repetition from Cherish.

Layout Linky #19 + LOAD #8 - Party On

For the Virtual Scrapbooking Night at Split Coast Stampers, one of the challenges was to build a layout starting with Kraft paper and adding the colors red, green, and orange. I thought that would be perfect for pictures from Chuck E. Cheese. I always struggle with scrapping all those bright colors, so the Kraft was a perfect way to tone them down, plus I just used scraps of cardstock (no patterned paper) to minimize the busyness. The pattern is based on a sketch from the Nuts About Sketches blog.

Williams, AZ Layout

Good Monday to everyone out there in Blogland. Hope you all had a great weekend. I didn't post any layouts last week (sorry!), but I have been working on some. Here's one from our 2006 Arizona trip. We stayed in Williams, AZ because you can catch the train from there to the Grand Canyon. Williams was a small but cute town, and we enjoyed looking around while we were there. For the layout design, I adapted the sketch from Nuts About Sketches Week 118 to fit my needs.

LOAD #17 - Blue Sharks

Today's page uses the same pattern (Small Packages) as yesterday's, and it's the same subject (soccer pictures), but you can see how the two look totally different because I used different supplies. I also used stitching on both layouts, but whereas yesterday's featured embroidery floss, today I got lazy and just used a marker to create faux stitches.

EMS Sketch Challenge 17 - Crane Flats Layout

I actually started working on this challenge prior to Monday morning, so I'm posting before noon on Monday - woohoo! Not much to comment on for this layout, but I do have one tip: when adhering ribbon to a layout or card, if you're having trouble with the folded over ends not sticking, use a little Liquid Glass. Your ribbon will definitely stay put!

EMS Sketch 13 Layout

I just finished my layout for Sketch Challenge 13, and here it is. It will be the title page for our vacation to Yosemite in 2006. We hadn't arrived yet, but we took some pictures at the hotel we stayed at along the way, so I wanted to scrapbook them and tie them to our trip, thus the title. I just can't get enough of the Splendor papers. They go so perfectly with so many pictures, and I just love the happy feel they evoke in me!

Pure Mischief Layout

I think I mentioned previously that I'm going back in time to scrapbook photos from 2007. Here's a layout from when my younger son was almost 2. Elliot was (and still is) a little bundle of mischief, so I love these photos that capture that part of his personality. My favorite part of this layout (beside the pictures) is the heart border on the right page. The idea came to me in the middle of the night, and I'm still not sure whether I invented this technique or scraplifted it from somewhere, but I love it either way.

LOAD #16 - Carnival

Today's layout is simple in design, but it allowed me to get 8 uncropped 4"x6" photos on a double page spread. I got the idea from the December 2009 edition of Creating Keepsakes magazine. One fun technique I used today: I didn't have any white brads left (used them all on my Christmas cards!), so I dipped the silver brads in Versamark ink, then White Daisy embossing powder, and then I heat set them. Viola - white brads. You can do this with any color of embossing powder, so I sure wish CTMH carried embossing powder to match all their colors. Maybe next idea book!

LOAD #14 - New Best Friends

We got these "dolls" for our boys at the Disney store a while back (they were on sale), and the kids were so excited about them. Adrian had dressed up as Buzz and Elliot as Woody for Halloween the year before (2008), so they each identified with their new friend. I especially love how Adrian carefully buckled Buzz into a seatbelt before we started the car. Too cute! Also loving the Route 66 papers I got through the CTMH Holiday Heyday Clearance Sale in December. Gotta have more of those sales, right? And I got a chance to use 2 new stamp sets that are destined to become favorites, Boys at Play and Cocktail Alphabet. I can tell these are going to be so useful in the future as I scrap photos of my two superheroes!
