Dear Friends, Let's Celebrate Layout for Lasting Memories #703

It's time for the final challenge of the month over at Lasting Memories, and this time I asked everyone to create a layout that was inspired by someone else's layout. There are so many talented scrappers out there, so it was hard to narrow it down, but I decided to lift fellow LM design team member Jill Rugg. I loved her adorable "Wish You Were Here" layout and pretty much CASEd (copy and steal everything) it! The hardest part was figuring out how to make the edges look like an airmail envelope, but I finally created a template in Cricut Design Space and used the openings as a guide to color the markings. I noticed after I was about halfway around the layout that they should have been flush with the edge of the paper, but I just kept going and decided I like how it looks. From This Moment Layout

I wasn't able to be at my sister-in-law's wedding, but I was able to capture a little bit of this meaningful time through the photos my hubby took. I used lots of die-cuts, stamping, and embossing to create this layout, and achieving a feminine look without drowning it in pink was an enjoyable challenge. Hopefully you think I succeeded in that aim!

Challenges: 2 Crafty Critter Crazies #43 (I was inspired to add a stamped, heat embossed, fussy-cut butterfly to my layout); Tic Tac Toe Challenges #86 (I did the diagonal with die-cut, circle, and stitching, AND the column with stitching, ribbon, and designer paper. I also used gold embossed paper and added gold embossing, so that kinda works for the other diagonal).

Ouch Layout

Taking a break from Christmas layouts to do a quasi-Christmas layout. My younger son Elliot received a skateboard for Christmas in 2011, and hadn't been on it for five minutes when he fell and skinned his knee. In retrospect, the skateboard has been a poor investment, because Elliot also broke the bottoms off his two (permanent) front teeth while riding his skateboard this year. Sigh . . . So, something to contemplate as we usher in the new year: if you had a do-over for 2013, what would it be? And what would you like to do better in 2014? Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe (i.e. skateboard-free) New Year!

LOAD #10 - Carving Jack

I'm taking baby steps in this whole business of using my Felicity kit, so today's layout uses a 4" x 12" strip of one of the Felicity papers. Woohoo! Not up to using a full page yet, but the day is coming. I love this layout because it uses a couple of cool pictures of my hubby carving the pumpkin. Too often he takes a backseat to my cute kids, so it's nice to see him front and center for a change.

Women's Extreme Experience

I invited some friends over last night to scrapbook with me, and it reminded me why I scrapbook best alone. We were so busy talking that I only completed one layout in four hours! Oh well, at least we had fun. Actually, I would have finished more except I had a hard time finding my mojo for this layout. I tried one background, and even had the photos adhered, but my friend Patsy didn't like it. Sadly, I agreed, so I started over and am much happier with the results. I used Becky Higgins' sketch of the month from the June issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine as the base for my layout design. I love the Bella paper pack from CTMH, and was so happy for a chance to use flowers on a layout. I didn't have any matching embellishments, so I created my own. I cut out flowers and a vine from a piece of the Bella papers, coated the smaller ones with Liquid Glass for sturdiness, and adhered them to the pages. I then added brads to the centers of the flowers, and I was done!
